What is CAS?

Soil Environmental Accounting (CAS) is the annual measurement and recording of physical, chemical and biological parameters, integrated into a single index, which unequivocally points out the consequences of the production system used on soil quality.

CAS INDEX

The CAS Index can range from 0 to 7 and is calculated from the objective measurement of biological, physical and chemical parameters that represent soil quality.

With the plot’s CAS index, the values obtained are compared annually, determining Soil Environmental Accounting, which can be positive or negative.

The Index is the result of the sum of the values attributed to the groups of parameters plus the systemic balance that indicates harmony between the parameters. The higher the index, the better quality the soil.

STARM CAS+

What is the seal and criteria?

From the second year onwards, the producer begins Environmental Soil Accounting, and will receive the annual CAS seal when the CAS Index for the current year is at least 3% higher than that of the previous year.
 
After receiving the first stamp, the producer does not receive a new stamp:
 
• If the management system of the other plots of the property (not measured) is different from the plots monitored by Environmental Soil Accounting.
 
• If the CAS index is negative more than 3% for three consecutive years.
